The World's Only Multi-Standard Receiver for Mobile Digital TV Makes Asian Debut at Computex, Taiwan
TAIPEI, Taiwan, May 24th, 2006 -
Siano Mobile Silicon, a fabless semiconductor product company developing mobile digital television (MDTV) receiver solutions, announced today that it will make the Asian debut of the world's only multi-band, multi-standard receiver chipset for mobile digital television (MDTV) in Siano's suite (Grand Hyatt Hotel, Room # 1120) at Computex 2006, taking place June 6-8 in Taipei.
The SMS1000 is the industry's first low-cost, ultra-low-power, quad-band multi-standard receiver. A combination of RF tuner and demodulator, the SMS1000 constitutes a complete solution for integrating digital TV function into handheld and portable devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, lap-top computers and portable media players. The highlight of Siano's exhibit showcases the SMS1000 chipset, already design-in by a number of Taiwanese makers, and supported by multiple software vendors, of which many have a local presence in the Taiwan region.
The SMS1000, now in mass production stage, supports DVB-H, DVB-T, DAB, Enhanced Packet Mode DAB (IP-DAB) and T-DMB mobile digital standards, in various spectrum ranges. With enhanced mobility performance and minimum overhead on the host CPU, the SMS1000 is the best option for designing multiple products for different applications supporting MDTV. It has been designed into a number of handheld devices that will be launched to market soon.
Visitors to Computex will see Siano's SMS1000 demonstrated at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Room # 1120, with the following partners:
Inventec Appliances Corporation (IAC), a Taiwanese handheld device maker is developing multiple products using Siano's SMS1000 MDTV receiver. "IAC views MDTV as a strategic technology and market, and we aim at integrating it into many of our future products, addressing different regions and different MDTV standards," said Michael Chen, senior vice president of IAC. "After careful analysis of the MDTV IC supplier landscape, we have selected Siano as our strategic partner, due to their superior product offering, and the great synergy between the companies," added Chen.
Siano has teamed with CyberLink, a leading Digital Home Solution software developer, to provide advanced digital TV signal reception on handheld and portable devices. CyberLink has extensive development success in delivering TV solutions on Windows and Linux platforms through PowerCinema. "Today, we are excited to see an emerging Mobile Digital TV market taking place," said Alice. H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. "What's more, we are very pleased to co-work with Siano to provide fast time-to-market, winning-edge DVB-H solutions to handheld makers."
InterVideo, a leading provider of integrated digital and high-definition multimedia and audio/video content solutions in the PC, CE and wireless industries, has developed software that takes advantage of the SMS1000's MDTV support. "With the growth of MDTV, we wanted to offer products that support this technology. Siano was selected because they make an outstanding receiver that will keep pace with the emerging MDTV standards," said Chinn Chin, InterVideo's Senior VP of Engineering. InterVideo's software together with Siano's MDTV receiver will be bundled with products sold by leading handset OEMs in China, Taiwan, Japan and the United States.
Siano has collaborated with VidzMedia, integrating VidzMedia's digital video and TV application software for Windows XP and MS Mobile applications.
