Thin Multimedia and Siano Team on Multi-standard Mobile TV Platform

Firms team on multi-standard mobile TV platform

SAN FRANCISCO — Multimedia software provider Thin Multimedia Inc. (TMI) and mobile TV chip vendor Siano Mobile Silicon have entered into an agreement to collaborate on the creation of a multi-standard, integrated mobile TV platform, the companies said Friday (March 23).

TMI plans to demonstrate its mobile TV solution including DVB-H and T-DMB with Siano's SMS1000 mobile digital TV receiver chip at next week's CTIA Wireless 2007 in Orlando, Fla., the companies said. TMI said its middleware software solutions are optimized for multiple platforms, including Windows, Windows Mobile 5.0, embedded Linux, and Nucleus.

"With mobile TV now moving from trials to deployment, this platform provides terminal manufacturers with a highly integrated and high quality solution—combining Thin Multimedia's advanced AV player with our multi-standard," said Alon Iron, CEO of Siano (Netanya, Israel), in a statement.

"Mobile handset manufacturers are really focusing on reducing costs and shortening their development cycle," said David Shin, director of mobile TV at TMI (Palo Alto, Calif.). "This integrated, multi-format solution is what the market has been clamoring for."
