Siano demonstrates a multi-standard receiver using DAB-IP, the technology used by BT Movio

Support of DAB-IP allows Siano's customers to further expand their mobile devices into new markets

Beijing, China - October 18, 2006 - In a move targeted to expand the available markets for its customers, Siano Mobile Silicon has demonstrated DAB-IP on its mobile DTV (MDTV) receiver products-the technology used by BT Movio for their UK service.

BT Movio's mobile broadcast entertainment platform operates by using Internet Protocol (IP) over an existing Digital Audio Broadcasting, or DAB, network. The service was launched last month, and gives consumers access to a combination of TV channels, all the existing DAB Digital Radio stations, a 7 day programmer guide and 'red button' interactivity.

Siano is the only chip maker today that offers a single chip, multi-band, multi-standard MDTV receiver. Its SMS1000 family of products supports DAB-IP as well as DVB-H, T-DMB and DVB-T, and allows reception over a wide range of spectrum bands, from 170MHz to 1680MHz.

BT Movio managing director Emma Lloyd said: "Our approach to mobile TV and radio is to deliver the best consumer experience without confusing the market with technology choices. Siano's multi-mode, multi-frequency solution compliments our approach perfectly, as it opens up the possibility of offering more channel choice as and when new spectrum is released in the UK. Siano's solution will also enable handset manufacturers to develop devices targeted at all consumer segments for the UK and other markets using one hardware platform."

"Siano's vision has been to enable a unified "TV Everywhere" experience, in which mobile end users can select and view channels regardless of the radio transmission system that delivers these channels," said Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano. "Technologies like DAB-IP and DVB-H, both targeted by BT Movio, are perfect for that, as they encapsulate the digital TV signal into an IP stream." "We already have several customers developing multi-standard TV mobile phones now. It is very important for us to support DAB-IP, as it allows these customers to further expand their markets," added Ironi.

Siano will demonstrate live reception of the DAB-IP mobile TV in Siano's booth (number B17) at the upcoming DMB Expo trade show in Beijing, to be held in the Century Golden Resources Hotel, during October 25-27.
