Compal Communications Demonstrates DVB-H and T-DMB Pocket PC Powered by Siano

Compal's Pocket PC, running Microsoft Mobile 2003 operating system, integrates Siano's mobile DTV chipset

3GSM World Congress - Barcelona, Spain - February 13, 2006 - Compal Communications Inc., a leading manufacturer of IT and communication devices, announced today that it will demonstrate a complete application of DVB-H and T-DMB on its Pocket PC at the 3GSM World Congress taking place February 13-16 in Barcelona. The DVB-H and T-DMB receiver is made by Siano Mobile Silicon - a fabless manufacturer of integrated semiconductor receivers for mobile digital television (MDTV).

DVB-H and T-DMB are positioned to be the most widely adopted MDTV standards when the MDTV market starts later this year. They allow efficient, high quality, low power perception of TV broadcast programs on mobile and hand-held devices.

Compal Communications, a reputable maker of mobile phones, smartphones and PDA phones, is among the first phone makers worldwide to integrate MDTV into its products.

"We believe digital mobile TV will quickly become a large market," said James Lo, marketing director of Compal Communications. "As a leading mobile phone and smartphone maker we are already integrating this new technology. We selected the Siano chipset because it is highly competitive in all parameters, and allowed us the shortest path to a fully functional system," added Lo.

The Compal Pocket PC supports DVB-H and T-DMB at QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels) at 30 frames per second, with stereo audio at 16-bit sample resolution.

"We are pleased to collaborate with Compal," said Alon Ironi, Siano CEO. "Compal's line of Pocket PC is an optimal platform for mobile TV and enables the end user to enjoy the TV experience at high quality yet at an affordable price point."
