Siano wins SARFT certification with CMMB performance records
SMS1180 scored exceptional results in sensitivity, power and mobility
Beijing, November 6, 2008 – Siano Mobile Silicon, the leading global mobile TV chip- maker, announced today that its CMMB receiver chip has passed performance tests carried out by the Chinese Government Agency SARFT (State Administration for Radio, Film and Television) with outstanding results. Attaining exceptional margins for sensitivity, mobility and immunity, combined with the low power consumption, the results firmly establish Siano’s leadership within the CMMB chip market.
The CMMB standard, based on Chinese homegrown technology known as STiMi (short for Satellite and Terrestrial Interactive Multiservice Infrastructure), is currently deployed in 37 cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou with nationwide coverage, supported by the addition of satellite broadcast, planned for 2009.
Siano’s SMS1180 scored excellent results during the rigorous testing session. For example, sensitivity results are measured at -99dBm or better, min C/N tested at the low speed profile shows a margin of 5dB with respect to the SARFT criteria, and immunity to analog and digital interferers exhibits unparalleled margins. Combined with the fact that the SMS1180 is the only solution that also fully supports all CMMB 16QAM modes, it is by far the most advanced, comprehensive in features and fully integrated CMMB solution in the market.
Other CMMB performance tests further endorsed SARFT’s findings. David Neff, CEO of US-based DTV infrastructure equipment maker Axcera, which manufactures high quality CMMB transmitters, commented: “Our tests of the various CMMB receiver solutions in the market clearly showed that Siano’s chip delivers higher performance, outperforming competing products by considerable margins.”
Mr. Kim, T.H., CEO of DTV Interactive, a leading Korean maker of DTV lab equipment added: "Siano's receiver is the best solution in the market that can receive the entire set of CMMB compliant signals that our CMMB generator, the CMG2000 outputs, including 16QAM CMMB format.
Siano’s chip, the SMS1180, allows crystal clear reception of CMMB signals even far away from the ground transmitters, as well as in deep indoor locations. It also allows excellent reception while traveling at high speeds in cities, as well as on highways. Supporting both terrestrial UHF and satellite S-Band signals, Siano's SMS1180 is the only single-chip receiver that is ready for nation wide deployment of CMMB via satellite. The SMS1185 variant adds antenna diversity option – with a single chip, making it ideal for notebooks and automotive applications. Siano also offers the highest level of component integration enabling fast-time to market and the lowest bill-of-material in the market.
Siano will be showcasing state-of-the art products powered by its CMMB chip at the upcoming BIRTV conference in Beijing on 4th to 8th November at Siano’s stand (#7012 in hall 7).
Siano’s CEO, Alon Ironi, added: “The launch of Siano's CMMB receiver 4 months ago has been extremely successful. The results of SARFT's official tests are indicative of Siano's commitment to continue to provide the CMMB industry with the best solutions, at the lowest possible costs. We look forward to substantial growth in China in 2009.”
