S3 and Siano enable Mobile Operators and OEMs to deliver Mobile DTV to the Masses
Amsterdam, September 6th, 2007– Silicon & Software Systems (S3) and Siano Mobile Silicon (Siano) today announced that they are cooperating to enable mobile operators and device manufacturers to deliver pre-integrated hardware and software mobile DTV solutions to the emerging mobile DTV accessory market. In order to dramatically reduce time to market and development effort, S3 has integrated its market leading onHandTV™ Mobile DTV software client with Siano’s SMS1010, a high performance, low power mobile DTV receiver. In addition to integration on commercial devices such as the Giga-byte's GSmart T600, the companies promote the DVB-H/T accessory market by demonstrating pre-integrated hardware and software solutions supporting USB PC receivers and SDIO/Mini/Micro-SD plug-in cards for a range of Windows Mobile devices. Examples of these devices will be shown at IBC later this week, where both companies are exhibiting in the Mobile Zone.
S3’s Platform Independent onHandTV™ Mobile TV client is fully compliant with both IPDC and OMA BCAST ESG standards and, by working with the market leaders in Service Protection, has proven interoperability with the OMA BCAST Smartcard profile, DRM Profile and DVB’s OSF profile. Siano's SMS1000 family of mobile DTV receivers supports multiple formats and spectrum bands, at superior sensitivity and mobility performance. With its SMS8021 antenna chip Siano offers the complete cost-effective, small form factor hardware TV on the go. The joint offering of S3 and Siano includes all of the ingredients required for a subscriber (or free to air) mobile TV solution: UHF antenna-chip (Siano's SMS8021), receiver (SMS1010), and onHandTV™ that includes an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) client and an interface to Conditional Access clients of various profiles as well as TV players.
