Cidana and Siano Debut Cutting-edge Platform for Mobile DVB-T

First Public Demonstration at IBC Conference

Amsterdam, Netherlands, September 3, 2007 – Cidana, a manufacturer of advanced multimedia software solutions for handheld, embedded and automotive markets, has partnered with Siano Mobile Silicon, a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for Mobile Digital TV (MDTV), to develop advanced mobile digital TV solutions that enable users around the world to enjoy DVB-T on mobile handheld platforms such as PDAs, Smartphones, etc.

The two companies will demonstrate the solution at the IBC Conference in Amsterdam, 7-11 September, mobile zone booth 176.

The companies will feature a new platform comprising Cidana’s advanced DVB-T player and Siano's integrated SMS1010 mobile TV receiver. The platform is targeted at mobile device makers – be it smartphones, navigation devices, or portable media players – that wish to extend their feature list with TV-on-the-go.

DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) is commercially deployed in more than 32 countries in Europe and Asia, with another 30-40 countries planning deployment soon. Due to power consumption, mobility and antenna size restrictions, DVB-T has not been perceived adequate for mobile devices until recently.

Siano's SMS1010 receiver chip has practically changed this reality, with reception performance that allows mobility, works well even with a small antenna, and extends battery life such as to enable truly enjoyable user experience.

Cidana’s DVB-T player is able to present a true, live DVB-T signal with a superior D1 resolution and 25 FPS high quality video, and Siano’s SMS1010 enables mobile devices to receive DVB-T at high quality for more than 3 hours of playback without battery re-charge.

"Both DVB-T and DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) are available 'free to air' in quite a few countries," said Alon Ironi, CEO, Siano Mobile Silicon. "There is no need for frequency allocation, conditional access, or operator subscription. End users simply need to get hold of a DVB-T-enabled mobile device, and they are all set for watching digital TV and radio on the go – for free." "Cidana's mobile DVB-T player yields an amazing, crystal-clear live video and audio quality, while not exhausting the device battery," added Ironi. "This new platform is the most attractive vehicle today for adding DVB-T to handheld devices"

“As developers of advanced, cutting edge software solutions for the mobile multimedia market, we are proud to pioneer the mobile TV revolution through cooperation with Siano, and its innovative receiver chip," said Chinn Chin, CEO of Cidana. “The new platform is leading the mobile DVB-T market in performance and power consumption. We are working very closely with Siano on a complete range of applications for mobile TV, in order to guarantee our customers and partners the most available, compelling and enjoyable mobile TV products.”
