r. Erel N. Margalit is the founder and managing partner of JVP (Jerusalem Venture Partners). Thirteen years ago Mr. Margalit set the tone for Israeli venture capital investing by creating a new model that combined a hands-on management approach with international market creation strategies. Under Mr. Margalit's leadership JVP helped build numerous technology companies that are today global enterprises with traction in Israel, United States, Europe and Asia. Consistently staying ahead of market trends, Mr. Margalit anticipated the growing impact of media technologies and increased the firm's investments in that area during the past few years. In addition to helping to orchestrate the .82 billion sale of Chromatis to Lucent Technologies in 2000, Mr. Margalit successfully led fifteen exits with such companies as Netro (IPO and subsequently acquired by SR Telecom, Inc. JVP sold its shares at a .5B company valuation), Precise (IPO and subsequently acquired by Veritas), Scorpio (acquired by US Robotics), Fundtech (NASDAQ: FNDT), ViryaNet (NASDAQ: VRYA), Jacada (NASDAQ: JCDA), Paradigm Geophysical (IPO and subsequently privately acquired), MagniFire (acquired by F5 Networks, NASDAQ: FFIV), Native Networks (acquired by Alcatel, NYSE: ALA), Cogent (NASDAG: CCOI) and Allot Communications (NASDAQ: ALLT).
Currently, Mr. Margalit focuses on media technologies, combining projects in the fields of animation and gaming that bring together engineers and artists into a new mode of thinking. He also invests in more traditional industries such as communications & networking, and enterprise software. Mr. Margalit plays a direct role in creating and managing the global investment strategy for the firm and actively participates on the boards of several portfolio companies, including Cyber-Ark, Double Fusion, Magink and Sepaton.
Prior to founding JVP, Mr. Margalit was the Director of Business Development for the City of Jerusalem under its former Mayor, Teddy Kollek. There he was instrumental in facilitating the arrival of more than 70 technology firms to the city, including Digital, IBM and many others that gave rise to the burgeoning technology community that drives the Israeli economy today.
Mr. Margalit holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Columbia University.
Formerly CEO of Emblaze Semiconductor, Entrepreneur in Residence at Concord VC, General Manager of Zoran Israel and VP Engineering of Zoran Corporation, and responsible for the overall engineering activity at Zoran worldwide. Alon has 15 years experience in fabless IC management, product roadmap definition and strategy, SoC architecture and design, and building and maintaining commercial relationships with global customers.
Alon is experienced in leading the entire activity of a fabless IC company, including building its vision, mission, strategy and revenue generation, with a proven track record in building partnerships with market leaders, in particlar, mobile phone platform providers. He holds a BSEE (Cum Laude) from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology (Israel) and completed the MSEE program at Santa Clara University (USA).
Upon completing his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the university of Aachen in 1985, Mr. Ulrich Schumacher joined Siemens as a manufacturing engineer. After successfully completing a few roles in Siemens, Mr. Schumacher was appointed head of the memory division of Siemens Semiconductor in 1992. In 1996 he became president of Siemens Semiconductor, and in 2000 he span off this division as an independent company, Infineon Technologies. Mr. Schumacher took Infineon to a successful IPO in 2000, and made Infineon one of the leading semiconductor companies in the world. Mr. Schumacher left Infineon in April 2004, to pursue high-level business development in the hi-tech world. In September 2007 Mr. Schumacher became CEO & President of Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp., a specialized semiconductor foundry, based in Shanghai, China.
Mr. Adam Fisher joined Bessemer in 2007 as a Partner, bringing to the firm a decade of experience in venture capital. At Bessemer, Mr. Fisher is focused on investments in software, Internet, data center, and wireless. The founder of BVP Israel’s Herzliya office, he focuses primarily on the firm’s Israel and European investments. Adam serves on the boards of UK-based Axis Network Technology and Moscow-based Enforta, as well as Altair, Siano, Soluto, Storwize, and Wix, all of which are based in Israel. Before joining BVP, Mr. Fisher was a General Partner in the Jerusalem and New York City offices of Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP). Mr. Fisher led or co-led JVP's investments in Dune Networks (acquired by Broadcom (NASDAQ:BRCM)), Allot Communications (NASDAQ:ALLT), Cogent Communications (NASDAQ:CCOI), Native Networks (acquired by Alcatel (NYSE: ALU)), Celltick, and Sepaton, among others. Mr. Fisher also led JVP's Asia strategy and established the firm's Shanghai office in 2004.
With his strong background in media related software and internet based R&D organizations, Mr. Gadi Tirosh is a key member of JVP's media team, as well as a board member of Double Fusion (Board Observer), Funtactix, Infinite Memory, Magink, Minicom and Playcast. His experience has provided him with strong domain expertise in both the consumer infrastructure world and service provider needs.
Before joining JVP, Mr. Tirosh was Corporate VP of Product Marketing and member of the executive committee for NDS, a leader in digital pay-TV systems, supporting some of the largest digital broadcast platforms such as DIRECTV, BSkyB, Canal Digital and more. At NDS, Mr. Tirosh established the business of digital interactive TV in the late 90s, catering to the likes of Sky Sports, MTV, Discovery, QVC and other leading TV channels.
He lead the NDS international marketing team responsible for defining the product scope and roadmap for NDS established products such as conditional access for secure broadcast, middleware for digital set-tops, and integrated PVR solutions. Prior to NDS, Mr. Tirosh held a variety of positions in software and Internet-based R&D organizations, including Director of Product Marketing at ServiceSoft Corp, Software Company providing self-help solutions over the Internet for service organizations.
Mr. Tirosh holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Mathematics as well as an Executive MBA from the Hebrew University.
